Samsung NX1 Announced

Posted on November 4, 2014 by Tim Saxe

Hello, and happy Tuesday!

Longer-term followers of QuickLogic know that we’ve been working with a Tier 1 OEM of digital cameras for some time now with our display products.  As Andy Pease mentioned in his prepared remarks in our Q3 2014 earnings call, we were expecting to announce the OEM in question.   Following through on that, we today announced that it is, in fact, Samsung, in the NX1 camera.

It’s always both exciting and a honor to be shipped in a Samsung product.  Of course, this means that QuickLogic is now shipping in Samsung phones, tablets, and cameras.

A bit of a background — digital cameras and DSLRs differ in internal design from smartphones and tablets, as you may have guessed.   The main processing engines in DSC/DSLRs are not the same as others (DSC/DSLRs are focused on image quality first, and all else secondarily).   One unfortunate benefit of that is often the interfaces to outside components aren’t necessarily the most popular or up-to-date in the market.

Our ArcticLink III BX bridges display standards in the NX1, allowing the use of a high-quality, commonly-available displays with their chosen processor, insuring a no-compromise design.

Questions?

    Paul,

In your comments from today’s post you state:
“It’s always both exciting and a honor to be shipped in a Samsung product. Of course, this means that QuickLogic is now shipping in Samsung phones, tablets, and cameras.”

I wasn’t aware that Quicklogic was actually shipping in Samsung phones. What model phone is Quicklogic shipping in?

Thank you and I enjoy your posts.
