How the CX Enhances Our Capabilities in Datacards

Posted on July 15, 2011 by Tim Saxe

We’ve posted another video blog on our YouTube channel, starring yours truly (we’re looking for volunteers, I promise!), discussing how our new ArcticLink II CX enhances QuickLogic’s capabilities in the data card market.

The video provides the viewer:

  • a brief review of the CX
  • an explanation of the function(s) QuickLogic’s PolarPro II CSSPs have performed in previous and current generations of datacards, including a simplified block diagram
  • a view into how the CX can be used in next generation data cards, including the performance advantages, what it replaces (including becoming the ‘brains’ of the device), and how it operates. This also includes a block diagram

I do want to point out something that we’ve been questioned about on more than one occasion: the CX, while having an on-board processor that is fully capable of performing functions required for data cards, is NOT a replacement or competitor for processors found in smartphones or tablets.  The CX processor, a 32-bit RISC CPU, is fully capable of handling functions required in data cards.  However, when it comes to operating a smartphone or tablet,  the 1.5GHz Snapdragon’s and Tegra 3’s of the world produced by our friends at Qualcomm and nVidia (respectively) are much more applicable.

Questions on the CX in datacards?
