Today we announced an exciting new line of products from QuickLogic, the Catalog CSSP line.
Rather than me blab on for (seemingly) hours, I’ll instead go right to questions that we’ve received when introducing this concept to customers and members of the press:
Q: What is the difference between a catalog CSSP and a regular CSSP?
A: A regular CSSP is custom-architected for the unique requirements of a specific customer. A Catalog CSSP is a device that has been architected to address what we see as common requirements of a group of customers. These groups of customers can be grouped by application, markets, or even processor vendor.
Q: What kind of customization is there on a Catalog CSSP?
A: None. The identical part is sold to any customer ordering the device. Any further customizations requirements from the OEM would result in standard CSSP.
Q: How are Catalog CSSPs developed?
A: Catalog CSSPs are typically developed in conjunction with partners (application processor makers, display manufacturers, etc…), or developed based on the common needs of customers within certain markets.
Q: Is this the end of the traditional CSSP model?
A: Not at all. Catalog CSSPs are simply an extension of our product line.
Q: How do Catalog CSSPs benefit the customer?
A: Catalog CSSPs offer the ability for a customer to have an immediate solution for an identified need. In the case of CAMI/F, OEMs who use Sitara but need a camera interface can continue with their existing processor, saving the time and cost of switching to other models.
Q: How do Catalog CSSPs benefit partners?
A: Partners, like application processor makers, have to make decisions on product features during the design stage. Those decisions inevitably lead to features being removed from the product due to BOM/size/cost constraints. Catalog CSSPs can be architected to ‘plug’ those product holes, allowing the partner to grow their Served Available Market by expanding into other market segments or by growing their customer base with the added function(s) the Catalog CSSP allows.
Q: How do Catalog CSSPs benefit QuickLogic?
A: Catalog CSSPs allow QuickLogic to provide identical solutions (devices and software drivers) to a multitude of customers. This allows our business to scale without having to scale internal resources to match. Additionally, close relations with partner companies can pay dividends in the traditional CSSP market as well.
Q: What product line(s) will feature Catalog CSSPs?
A: Any product line (ArcticLink II VX, ArcticLink II CX, PolarPro, Polar Pro II) featuring programmable fabric are candidates for Catalog CSSP products.
Q: What Catalog CSSPs do you have today?
A: Our initial Catalog CSSP is the CAMI/F device. Expect more in the very near future!
